If you are looking to live permanently in the UK, you may be able to gain Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR). We can help you navigate the complex procedures behind the application process.
Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR)
If you have lived continuously and lawfully for 5 or 10 years in the UK, you may be eligible for Indefinite Leave to Remain. If you have ILR or ILE (Indefinite Leave to Enter), there is no longer any time limit on your ability to stay in the UK, and you are settled in the UK.
You are free to study and work in any profession, or employment, including self-employment. You have a right to free healthcare, and you may be entitled to benefits.
Your non-UK family members may be able to join you in the UK.
There are multiple ways to apply for the Indefinite Leave to Remain status. You can either take either a 5-year or 10-year route UK visa to be eligible for ILR. Our UK long residence solicitors will look at your case and offer you tailored solutions for your ILR. If you’re a Swiss or EU citizen, then you don’t need to apply for an ILR. Instead, you can opt for settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme.
If you have lived at least 12 months in the UK after being granted ILR, you may be eligible for British Citizenship.
If you have ILR (settled status) granted under the EU Settlement Scheme, you will not need to apply for a document confirming your status. The Home Office will have emailed you a link to an online service that you can use to view and prove your status.
Besides your residency, you are required to:
- have sufficient English knowledge - either a B1 to C2 qualification or a British degree
- pass the Life In The UK test
There may be more requirements to meet, depending on your case.
For example, you might need to meet specific finance or salary requirements based on your visa. Additionally, you can apply for the ILR just after 2 to 3 years if you have a tier 1 UK visa, an innovator visa, or a global talent visa.
We can help you connect with the right Indefinite Leave to Remain solicitor in the UK to get your process started and give you the right guidance so you have all the right documents to ensure your application doesn’t get rejected.
